Product Description

The Mighty Armory 40 S&W / 10mm TNT Crimp Reloading die allows a tighter neck tension. The taper crimp die is your finishing die that tapers the cartridge case mouth to achieve a round with perfect SAAMI spec angle. Once the bullet is seated, the crimp will match spec sizing to provide consistent and uniform tension around the circumference of the bullet; from .418 to .420. This helps to prevent bullet setback, ensures reliable feeding, and maintains proper alignment and stability during firing.

Choose either die option depending on material preference (steel die body or alloy die body):

  • 40 S&W, 10mm TNT Crimp reloading die with alloy body and anodized finished with a steel micro-polished crimp butt.
  • 40 S&W, 10mm TNT Crimp reloading die with steel body and black oxide finished with a steel micro-polished crimp butt.

Pro Tip: We recommend using PEG75 Lanolin mixed at 7 ounces of 99% alcohol and 1 ounce of PEG75

Popular Questions

What is the purpose of a taper crimp die?

The crimp die, which Mighty Armory also refers to as a "finishing die" is responsible for folding back the flare of the case into the bullet creating proper bullet tension and case sizing to SAAMI spec.

How do I know if I over crimped?

An over-crimped lead or plated bullet tells you it is unhappy by hurling patterns, not groups. This is a result of squashing the bullet. For bullets under 14 Burnell hardness, we recommend a crimp .001 over the typical crimp so the bullet does not get squashed yet there is enough tension to hold it properly.

Can I use a taper crimp die for both semi-automatic pistol and revolver rounds?

A taper crimp is much more forgiving than roll crimp and doesn’t overwork the brass. Taper crimp is so versatile it can work on both.

What's the difference between a roll crimp and a taper crimp?

Roll crimp: Where the mouth of the case is physically rolled into the bullet’s cannelure. A roll crimp tends to overwork the brass and is typically considered to be an outdated technique.

Taper crimp: Where the case mouth is left alone and the sidewalls are squeezed against the bullet to keep things in place. When used with a Mighty Armory reloading die set, the taper crimp finishes the round to SAAMI specifications.

Step 1: Clean die bore before use. First with alcohol on a q-tip or paper towel. Then dry with a q-tip or paper towel.

Step 2: Turn the die into your press tool head with the case and bullet in the shell holder.

Step 3: Bring the tool head down over the bullet and snug it against the remaining flare. When it gets tight back it off a little.

Step 4: Raise the tool head and turn the die down ¼ of an inch. Then lock the die into place.

Step 5: If you would like a tighter crimp, turn the die down another ¼ turn.

You will now have a perfect SAAMI spec round.

Crimp measurements depend on bullet diameter:
9mm & 38 Super: Crimp to .376 to .378
.38 Special & .357 Magnum: Crimp to +.002 to .003
.40 S&W & 10mm: Crimp to .418 to .420
.45 ACP: Crimp to .468 to .470
