The Mighty Armory flare and expander die offers a silky-smooth entry and exit from the case that won’t stick. The designs are tool-free, ultra tough, with perfect vertical alignment. Each flare shaft is precision machined with high grade tool steel and heat treated for ultimate strength. The die is proven to outlast all others. The die will flare and expand for five calibers: 9mm, .38 Special, .38 Super, .38 Super Comp, and .357 Magnum.

The Mighty Armory Flare Expander Die is an independent station die that fits any press. A locknut is included with each die to ensure you can remove the die and reinstall without having to reset it. 

Also included is a nylon nut, which is optional depending on your press.

The comprehensive use of the Mighty Armory Flare and Expander Die is perfect to meet the needs of the commercial to beginner reloaders.

1. How much bell should I put in the case?

After flaring, measure the inside of the case just below the flare. Ideally you want to see .003 to .004 below bullet diameter. This ensures correct bullet tension and proper crimping tensions. 

2. How do I choose the right expander die for my needs with so many options on the market?

There are several types of flare expander dies on the market today, each with different pros/cons as well as different capabilities. It is recommended that you use a set of dies that are matched. For instance, Mighty Armory reloading dies work together as a measured system - size, flare, (optional) seat and crimp. Using a measured system makes loading easy and efficient – Think SAAMI spec for the best results!

Click Link to Pistol Flare Expander Die Instructions

Step 1: Turn the flare die with bushing into the tool head exposing about 1/2 inch below.

Step 2: Set a case in the plate or holder and flare the case. Measure the inside diameter of the case mouth using the back of your caliper. Flare should be .005 under bullet diameter.

Step 3: Find your desired setting by turning the flare expander shaft up or down. Bullet should set into the flare and stay in place when turned up-side-down.

Step 4: Lock the locknut into place.

Flare measurements depend on bullet diameter:
9mm & 38 Super: Flare to .381 to .383
.38 Special & .357 Magnum: Flare to + .002 to .003
.40 S&W & 10mm: Flare to .423 to .425
.45 ACP: Flare to .474 to.475

Flare expander will go in and out of the case smoothly without sticking and without powder spillage. Set the case at -.003 to -.004 below bullet diameter for all pistol cases.

Tool-Free & Easy Adjustment

Set the die into the tool head, turn the flare expander down to set the case inside diameter to -.003 below bullet diameter, lock it down and you're good to go.
