1. What is the difference between the Magnum and PUA decapping dies?

The Magnum, & PUA Decapping dies are both Universal and are spring operated by using a primer flicker cap design. The difference between the two is in the pin sizes. The Magnum includes two .078 diameter M2 steel pins, while the PUA includes two .058 diameter M2 steel pins. Mighty Armory's M2 steel pins are available separately and can be swapped among all of the decapping dies.

2. How do I decap cases with small flash holes?

Some of the European brass, for example, Lapua or US-made Peterson and alpha brass have small flash holes spec’d at 0.060. The Mighty Armory M2 steel .058 decapping pin is the choice to make when decapping this brass. The Mighty Armory PUA Decapping Die, which includes two .058 pins is highly recommended.

Step 1. Screw pin into the shaft using purple vibra-TITE 111 on the threads. This will prevent the pin from backing out of the shaft, which can cause problems. Use a 3/16" wrench to hold the flats of the shaft and snug the pin into place. Vice it with rubber grips to prevent scarring of the shaft. Do not overtighten the pin into the shaft – just snug it. The vibraTITE will do the rest.

Step 2. Drop the shaft and pin into the die body. Drop the spring into the cap well.

Step 3. Tighten the cap into the cap well with the spring. Strongly hand-tighten the cap against the o-ring. Then back out the cap ¼ turn. This will allow the flicker spring action to take place.

Step 4. Depending on your press, lower the tool head or raise the ram.

Step 5. Turn the die down into the tool head until the mouth of the die contacts the shell plate or shell holder. Now back your die out ¼ to ½ of a turn.

Step 6. Turn the locknut down and lock it into place.

When you decap a case, you will know you have it set up correctly when you hear the FLICK or the SNAP of the pin flicking the primer out of the flash hole. No more primer pull-back and no more jammed primer shoots!
